Four of Seattle's five losses have come from
road shutouts. Aaron Weinberg / NSS
It's not just that the Sounders haven't scored. It's that's they aren't even creating promising chances.
That's the problem head coach Sigi Schmid has been facing during the recent string of away games after being shutout 4-0 to the lowly Earthquakes and 1-0 to Real Salt Lake.
But perhaps Schmid and the rest of us should have seen the funk coming after Seattle failed to produce on the road in past games.

"You can fault a lot of things," head coach Sigi Schmid said. "But really, it just came down to a lack of effort."
That lack of effort has been showing on the road all season as Seattle has only managed a win once while racking up four of it's five losses. Lack of firepower on the road might be the most concerning statistic, because in each of the four losses Seattle was shutout.
While at home, Seattle has been much more consistent, racking up six of its seven wins while only accumulating one loss.
It's a problem Seattle football fans are very familiar with. In recent years, the Seattle Seahawks have often looked asleep while losing numerous morning games on the road without the ability to produce any offense.
Schmid talked about that after the Real Salt Lake 1-0 loss.

"At the end of the day, the game should have ended 0-0. We fell asleep at the wrong positions and paid the price," Schmid said.
Seattle's streak of ineptitude could continue this week against the hottest team in the MLS - the L.A. Galaxy.
With David Beckham and Landon Donovan back from international duties, the Galaxy have won five of their last six games and moved past Seattle in the Western Conference this week to take the no. 2 spot.
Seattle will have to find their attack this week on the road or further risk their playoff position with another loss.
The match begins at 8 p.m on KONG 6/16.
