MARINERS: Seattle, Lowe blows late lead in 5-3 loss

It's not often the Mariners lose when leading in the final two innings. But that's exactly what happened when the ordinarily reliable Mark Lowe came in relief to set up David Aardsma for the save.

He gave up a home run on the first at bat, and then proceeded to give up the lead with four runs, two earned, on three hits and one walk in his 0.1-inning appearance. It was his sixth loss of the season, a team-high amongst relievers, as the Mariners went on to lose 5-3 to the Tigers today.

The performance squandered another brilliant start by Felix Hernandez, who gave up just one run and five hits in seven innings. He also struck out nine batters and walked just one.

The Mariners took the lead in the top of the eighth off a pair of sacrifice flies. Shortstop Josh Wilson tied the game with a solo home run two innings earlier.
