MARINERS: Seattle takes a beating against Dodgers

An 8-2 loss was not quite what the Mariners were looking for as they embarked on one of the most difficult road trips in franchise history.

After this three-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers, they will head to New York to face the Yankees and will end the trip with the Boston Red Sox.

The offensive mauling started in the first inning on a three-run home run to right field by Dodgers right fielder Andre Ethier after Casey Blake and James Loney managed to reach base off M’s southpaw Jason Vargas.

The Mariners then countered in the top of the fourth, getting two men on for Jose Lopez, who then hit an RBI single to close the gap to 3-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Blake increased the Dodgers lead with a solo home run to left field.

Dodgers center fielder Matt Kemp then turned on his wheels for a triple, which was followed by an RBI single by pitcher Clayton Kershaw. Ichiro Suzuki then scored on a single hit by the returning Jose Lopez.

Ethier ended the game with a two-run home run in the 6th and then a solo shot in the 8th. His three home runs Friday night are a career high for the young stud.
