TUKWILA, Wash. In front of a crowd of 4,007 at the cozy confines of Starfire Sports Complex, the Sounders FC got the win this time against the Colorado Rapids in a US Open Cup qualifying match.

The two teams played to a 2-2 draw last Saturday in a MLS regular season game.

This time both teams sprinkled backups in with their starters but Seattle came out with the 1-0 win tonight at Starfire, qualifying them for the US Open Cup tournament.

The first half of the match was largely uneventful with Seattle failing to score on several attempts within a span of 30-40 seconds, 13 minutes into the match. Beyond that, both clubs rarely threatened with a lot of the play residing in the midfield as both sides tried to force the long ball into each team's offensive zone.

Both clubs went into the locker room tied 0-0. In the second half, Seattle broke the draw 61 minutes in with a goal by forward Kevin Forrest, who was making his debut in his first competitive match with the Sounders. Forrest broke into a celebration pulling his shirt over his head and running toward the covered stands.

That is where the score stood and Sounders FC are out of the qualifying portion and have earned a spot in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, to be played on or about June 30.

Seattle, now unbeaten (3-0-4) in its last seven league and cup games, resumes MLS play with a home match on Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field against the Columbus Crew (1-2-6) on Saturday 7:30pm.
