SOUNDERS FC: Despite Montero red card, team comes away with a point in 1-1 tie at Chicago

The Chicago Fire remain undefeated but still have only two wins thanks to Tyronne Marshall's late 74th minute goal off a Freddie Ljungberg corner kick to tie the game 1-1.

Keeper Kasey Keller gave up his first goal of the season in the second half.

But, considering slumping striker Fredy Montero was red carded in the 48th minute and that Chicago booted 15 shots to Seattle's four, coming away with a tie and a point might seem like a victory, especially after the Fire scored first.

Keller was tested early and often, having to make four saves while breaking up numerous plays throughout the game. In contrast, Seattle was hardly threatening to Fire goalkeeper John Brusch, who didn't have to make any saves.

Keller's shutout streak ended at 456 minutes, a league record.

The goal came on a Cuauhtemoc Blanco cross to Marco Pappa, who shot it low and quick to Keller's left, landing in the back corner of the net.

Striker Montero, who started the season on a hot streak scoring three goals in two games, was ejected in the 48th minute for elbowing Chicago’s Gonzalo Segares in the head as the two attempted to head the ball. The red card means Montero won't play next Sunday against the Galaxy.

With Montero ejected, the Sounders had to play a man down for the remainder of the match.

Sebastien Le Toux subbed in for Steve Zakuani, who has been working on his fitness since recovering from an ankle injury, in the 56th minute. He replaced forward Nate Jaqua at striker, moving Jacqua to midfield.

Using his fresh legs, Le Toux gave Seattle a few of their rare offensive opportunities, culminating in Le Toux forcing a cornerkick, which set up Seattle's goal.

Le Toux proved his worth at forward earlier this week at a US Open Cup play-in match at the Starfire pitch in Tukwila. Against Real Salt Lake, Te Toux netted two goals while racking up two assists.
