Jarrod Washburn got some rare run support but a fatal fifth inning evaporated a three-run lead as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim rallied to beat the Mariners 10-6 Monday at Safeco Field.
The Mariners spotted Washburn four runs in the first four innings.
Wladimir Balentien's sacrifice fly in the first put the Mariners on the board, then three bunts and a throwing error gave the Mariners two more runs in the second. Russell Branyan's 10th home run of the season in the fourth extended the lead to 4-1.

Washburn's only run allowed to that point had been a third-inning RBI double by Chone Figgins.
But then came the Angels' five-run fifth and there went the Mariners lead for good.
Facing Juan Rivera with one out, Washburn threw two borderline balls that each could have been called strike three. Rivera then hit a 3-2 pitch into the bullpen in left field for a solo home run.
After an infielg single by Erick Aybar scored a run, Torii Hunter's three-run RBI double made it 6-4.
Brandon Morrow and Denny Stark each worked two innings and allowed two runs.
