In the 11th inning, Wladimir Balentien hit an RBI double to give the Mariners a 5-4 lead, but closer Brandon Morrow couldn't hold on.
After reaching base on a single, Micheal Young stole second, so Morrow walked Josh Hamilton. Andruw Jones flied out to center but "Hammerin" Hank Blalock had other ideas on what to do with Morrow's fastball and hit a two-run double to beat the Mariners 6-5 in 11 innings.
To Continue...
Blalock was 0-for-5 when he came up to the plate in the 11th with two strikeouts, and Morrow didn't think he could catch up to his fastball but he did. It appears Seattle is still feeling the Bavasi affects.
Seattle started the game off well as Adrian Beltre hit a solo shot in the second, his second home run of the season. Kenji Johjima hit a two-run bomb in the fourth to give Seattle a 3-0 lead, but playing in Texas was too much for Jarrod Washburn.
"It was nice to see the power production," M's manager Don Wakamatsu said after the game. "The guys played hard all night. I'm proud of them."
There were two interesting line-up changes. Wakamatsu gave Ronny Cedeno the nod at short instead of Yunieski Betancourt, who's in a 2-for-18 slump, and Balentien his 10th start in left field instead of Endy Chavez.
"Historically [Betancourt's] lack of patience at the plate is something we've talked about," Wakamatsu said. "As a coaching staff, we can't hit for him."
Washburn gave up an RBI to Chris Davis in the bottom of the fourth then gave up a two-run homer to Josh Hamilton to tie the game in the fifth.
"The Muscle" Russell Branyan hit his eighth homer of the season to give the M's back the lead, but Washburn gave up an RBI triple to Elvis Andrus.
In six innings of work, Washburn gave up seven hits, four runs, all earned, stuck out five but walked four. Then it was up to the bullpen.
Between David Aardsma, Shawn White and Garrett Olson, the Rangers were held to two hits and three walks in four innings. The Rangers also struck out five times, twice by Aardsma and White and once by Olson.
