MARINERS: Lopez homers late, M's win in extras

_
If the Mariners are going to have any chance to play in the postseason this year, they'll need to build on the success of tonight's 4-3 win in extras.

With two on and two outs, Jose Lopez launched a 1-1 fastball over the left field fence to tie the game in the top of the ninth off Angels closer Brian Fuentes.

In the 10th, Wladimir Balentien led off with a double. Franklin Gutierrez bunted Balentien to third, and Balentien scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly by Yuniesky Betancourt.

"We never gave up," Balentien said. "We battled until the end."

Battled they did. If the Mariners are going to stay in the hunt for the AL West crown, they're going to need the offense to play like they did in the ninth.

Felix Hernandez was dynamite on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts, one walk and just one run, unearned.

Relief pitcher Brandon Morrow's struggles continued as he gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in the eighth. He struck out none.

Saturday's win gave the Mariners back-to-back series wins against the Angles for the first time since 2006.
