MARINERS: Wakamatsu gets his first sweep

The Mariners broke out the brooms and swept the A's in their three-game series as Erik Bedard and David Aardsma combined to shutout Oakland 1-0.

Facing Oakland's rookie pitcher Trevor Cahill, the Mariners struggled to get any offense going.

Seattle and Oakland combined for only six hits, three each in the defensive pitchers duel. Cahill struck out three, walked three and gave up one run on two hits.

Seattle didn't get its first hit until Adrian Beltre singled to center in the top of the seventh. Beltre scored later off an RBI double from DH Mike Sweeney.

Bedard cruised through eight plus innings of work walking one, giving up three hits and striking out seven. Bedard was extremely efficient, needing only 98 pitches in his performance.

Aardsma came on in the bottom of the ninth, not closer Brandon Morrow, with one on and one out to record his second save of the season. Jason Giambi struck out swinging and Aardsma walked Matt Holliday before getting Jack Cust to fly out to left.
