MARINERS: Game Preview: Mariners (5-2) vs Angels (3-3)

After Don Wakamatsu acquired his first-ever series sweep as a manager, he looks to continue his success against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

The Mariners will finally be able to play a game with the crowd cheering for them as they head to Safeco Field for their first home stand.

To Continue...

RHP Carlos Silva (0-1; 10.80 ERA; 2 SO ) will start off the game for the Mariners. The Halos are prepared to duel with RHP Shane Loux (0-0; 0.00 ERA; 0 SO).

In Silva’s second start of the season, he’ll rely on the spacious Safeco Field and the M’s new and improved defense. Franklin Gutierrez, Endy Chavez and Ken Griffey Jr. are figured to be in the outfield while Ichiro is still on the disabled list.

Watch for Silva’s almost too commonly used sinker ball and possibly a slider and changeup to keep the opposing batters off-balance.

Loux has not started a game since 2003 when he was playing for the Detroit Tigers, but he has found himself a spot on the once strong-pitching Angels.

He usually throws three pitches, most commonly a sinking fastball, but he also uses a changeup and breaking ball for flavor.

Both of the Mariners' 2008 Gold Glove winners, third baseman Adrian Beltre and right fielder Ichiro Suzuki, will be given their awards while Dave Niehaus will read “An ode to Safeco Field."
