Steve Zakuani

With a rare mixture of speed and skill, Zakuani was the consensus number-one prospect in this year’s draft. Though he will likely need time to adapt to the higher level of competition in MLS, Zakuani’s potential remains sky-high.

Fredy MonteroMontero could provide a level of talent rarely seen in MLS outside of designated players such as Guillermo Barros Scheletto and Cuahtemoc Blanco. Kasey Keller may not be a young man anymore, but at 39, he still may hold the key to the Sounder’s defense this coming season. The offseason signings of Freddie Ljungberg and Nate Jaqua suggest that the Sounder’s attack will be formidable. Read more.
Sanna Nyassi

The third player to sign with Seattle, Nyassi, 20, has impressed this preseason. The youngster is known for his ability to go left or right and for his lightning quickness. At 5-7, the Gambian-born winger is a player who can beat defenders with his dribbling ability, using his diminutive frame as an advantage. Read more.
Brad EvansWhen Sigi Schmid finishes formulating his starting 11 in the next few days, Brad Evans, 23, could find himself slotted into one of the central midfield positions for opening day.
After all, Evans helped Schmid’s last team, the Columbus Crew, to the MLS championship last year and was selected by Schmid the year before in the second round of the MLS Superdraft. Schmid also coached Evans with the U.S. U-20 National Team in 2005. Read More.
Jhon Hurtado

The Sounders helped to answer those questions by officially announcing the signing of Colombian defender Jhon Hurtado yesterday. Though he has been with the club since their trip to Argentina, he had not been handed an official contract until now. Hurtado will wear number 34 and is a potential starter at center back for opening day. Read More.
