SEAHAWKS: Team continues scouting Central QB Mike Reilly

Seahawks scouts reportedly visited Central Washington University's pro day today, featuring quarterback Mike Reilly and tight end Jared Bronson.

After just acquiring standout rookie TE John Carlson, it's unlikely the Seahawks went to scout Bronson. Instead, the Seahawks probably went to the pro day to continue their interest in Reilly, who drew the attention of Greg Knapp during the combine in Indianapolis in late February.

Head coach Jim Mora and general manager Tim Ruskell have said they are looking to draft a quarterback of the future in the upcoming draft. Reilly is a day two draft pick, someone slotted for as early as the second round and as late as the seventh.

Reilly is accurate throwing short to intermediate passes, but was never truly a bomber. He was also a rushing threat on every down and ran a relatively quick 4.92 at the combine. He eclipsed some of former Central QB Jon Kitna's records, including his passing yards mark.

While still raw, having played for a division II school, Reilly would have a few years of tutoring under Matt Hasselbeck and Seneca Wallace before being called upon to take the field as a starter.

With teams like the Patriots and Packers finding gems in late-round quarterbacks (Hasselbeck and Tom Brady), there's a good chance Ruskell will do the same. If the careers of Brett Favre, Kurt Warner and Kerry Collins are any indication, Hasselbeck still has several good starting years left in him. It will also save the franchise money by drafting a late round quarterback, a position that wouldn't see starting time after at least a couple years.

While some might be clamoring for a no. 4 selection of Matthew Stafford, taking Reilly, or another late rounder, might be more feasible.
