SEAHAWKS: Reading the field - Eagles moving on from Weaver

The Bengals made their selection in NSS's Joint Mock Draft.

Weaver
The Eagles are reportedly no longer in the running for FB Leonard Weaver. A league source told the Philadelphia Enquirer that Weaver's agent had not been in contact with the team in some time. Their source said Weaver might re-sign with the Seahawks or go with the Buccaneers.

To Continue...

Weaver's asking price appears to have been too high for any team willing to sign a fullback. He doesn't have enough experience to play as the "deluxe" back his agent has marketed him as and that's why teams are hesitant to sign Weaver to the deal he and his agent think he deserves.

Seattle has offered him a contract, and it appears likely he will re-sign with the Seahawks. However, there might be hard feelings between the teams and Weaver might choose to go to Tampa Bay. However, the Buccaneers already signed up-and-comer RB Derrick Ward to be the starting running back and there's no room for a "deluxe" back there.

Weaver may have to bite the bullet and stick in Seattle, where the fans will appreciate him.

Peterson
It appears a Peterson trade was in the works all along, according to a report by the P-I's Clare Farnsworth.

Peterson's deal was backloaded after three years, and it Ruskell wanted to trade the star before he faded. In 2008, his stats declined mightily, but it may have been a product of a terrible defense.

NFLPA
DeMaurice Smith was elected by the NFL Players association as the executive director, replacing the late Gene Upshaw.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh is one of 32 player representatives. From USA Today:
"It's not in the best interest of anybody to have a work stoppage," says Seattle Seahawks wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh, one of 32 player representatives. "We need to get somebody as our executive director that's willing to work on our behalf and go the extra mile."
