In a farewell of sorts, the P-I's John Hickey gives his view of what the 2009 season has in store for Seattle. By his measure, the team won't be a pushover.
Pitcher Randy Messenger has shed weight, lightened his mood and is quickly becoming Seattle's best pitcher in the spring. While he's an outside shot to be the closer, Messenger is just hoping he can contribute and make the team.
To continue...
Another player just trying to make the team is pitcher Tyler Johnson after fighting through what could have been career threatening injuries.
Johnson is one of many players attempting to make the team as the situational left-hander. The list of candidates is not reassuring.
One thing that is reassuring is pitcher Chad Cordero's workout, which drew a crowd of coaches and fans.
He is two years removed from being an ace closer for the Washington Nationals. Cordero said he hopes to be ready by mid-May. We'll see.
And just in case you're not tired of reading about injured pitchers or formerly injured pitchers, here's a piece on Erik Bedard and his quest to stay healthy this spring.
Hopefully that attitude doesn't carry over into the regular season.
