Column: Weaver best athlete in NFL, according to agent

The Vikings are one of
"four or five" teams that
desperately want to sign
Weaver to a multi-billion
dollar contract.

Rated as the best free agent fullback, Leonard Weaver has yet to land a big-time contract with a new team.

The situation appeared inconceivable before the dawn of free agency in late February because the “versatile” “deluxe” fullback is the best player – at any position – in the league.

According to his agent.

It’s surprising no team has ordered the super deluxe extra large Weaver (make that a side of fries.)

As a fullback, a featured position in the NFL these days, Weaver was expected to sign with a new team one second into Feb. 27, the day free agency began.

Weaver wowed the NFL world with 130 rush yards in 2008. He also progressed enough to be labeled an adequate blocker.

Weaver’s agent also describes the fullback as a forest dwelling killing machine.

“He’s definitely not the average bear,” he told Philadelphia Enquirer.

Who wouldn’t want a bear, ravaging and pillaging the opposing defense with razor sharp claws and freight train-like grizzly speed? The only downside would be the unsportsmanlike conduct penalties he’d accrue while stiff arming opponents’ heads off.

The only explanation for not having signed with another team yet is because teams keep bidding higher and higher for the fullback. It takes time to cut an entire squad to make room for the salary cap Weaver is due to consume.

"[The Vikings] said before you do anything please give us a call," his agent told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He added that the Vikings have been in contact with him at least once a week.

If you thought that number was staggering then this will blow your mind. So many teams are interested in Weaver that his agent apparently can’t remember them all. He revealed the number to the Star Tribune.

“Four or five.”

The Seahawks may have to sell Qwest Field to afford re-signing Weaver, but the reward more than makes up for the cost.

Or is it the other way around? Who knows, maybe he can break into the 200 yard mark next year and really prove how "deluxe" of a back he is.
