Hackett caught 32
passes for 384 yards
and 3 TDs during
six games in 2007
with the Seahawks.
After making just 13 catches during a disappointing injury-riddled season, WR D.J. Hackett was cut by the Carolina Panthers today.
Hackett left Seattle in free agency last offseason after GM Tim Ruskell made little effort to retain the rising star, who missed most of the 2007 season with an ankle injury.
In Carolina, Hackett struggled outside of the West Coast offense and suffered minor injuries sidelining him for much of the 2008 season. He started two games, missed seven and finished with 181 yards on the year.
Hackett may draw interest from the Seahawks once free agency hits because of his knowledge of the offense.

During his time with the Seahawks, Hackett showed a knack for making spectacular catches. At 6-foot-2, he showed great ability to make leaping grabs and also showed good moves after the catch.
Hackett would undoubtedly be a good if not great NFL receiver if he could stay healthy. He missed more than half the 2007 season with an ankle injury. Since then, he hasn't instilled confidence in anyone after suffering a high ankle sprain and a knee injury with the Panthers.
The Seahawks can't afford to have more injury-prone wide receivers on the squad after an injury-plagued 2008 season.
The only way Hackett could end up in Seattle is if no teams were to show interest in him during the free agency period and the Seahawks were able to sign him at close to the veteran minimum. But it's unlikely the Seahawks will land Hackett this offseason, as he is sure to draw slight but decent free agent interest from a few teams, notably the Washington Redskins.
