SEAHAWKS: Free agent watch: Broncos release six players, former 'Hawks and former no. 4 overall draft pick

Yeaahhh... No

The Broncos released six players today in an effort to clear salary cap room for what has been dubbed a transition year.

Two former Seahawks were cut: LB Niko Koutouvides and DT Marquand Manual.

Koutouvides was a special teams captain and attributed to the success of the unit in 2007 and many 12th men will be clamoring for his return to Seattle.

The most notable player cut from the squad was former 2003 no. 4 overall selection DT Dewayne Robertson. If Rocky Bernard leaves in free agency, which he probably will, the Seahawks will need to find a new starting defensive tackle.

But Robertson probably won't be on GM Tim Ruskell's free agent radar.

To Continue...

Robertson played five seasons with the Jets but was under-utilized as a nose tackle in their 3-4 scheme. At 317 lbs, Robertson didn't have the size to anchor the line and didn't perform up to expectations. He was traded to the Broncos to free up salary cap space in 2008.

He was a part of a defensive unit that ranked no. 27 in rush yards and no. 26 in pass yards. The Broncos needed help finding a strong pass rusher and Robertson proved to be as inconsistent as he was during his five years in New York.

Robertson has also had trouble passing physicals due to chronic knee problems that forced him out of a trade deal to the Bengals last offseason.

While his college history and once high NFL hopes might initially make Robertson an attractive free agent acquisition, his underwhelming performance and injury history should keep him out of Seattle.
