SEAHAWKS: Column: May power rankings

Jim Mora can feel the power of NSS's power rankings

It’s kind of early to roll out the power rankings.

Rosters aren't set and, really, things change so much from year to year. Just ask the 2007 one-win Dolphins.

But with wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh stoking the flames of passion of the 12th Man with recent comments playing up the underdog storyline, I thought I'd lend a more realistic look at Seattle's upcoming season by compiling the most accurate power rankings ever.

To Continue...
Things have changed slightly since my last February power rankings.

1. Seahawks
– Seattle is clearly the team to beat this season. They have a new head coach, new defensive coordinator, new offensive coordinator and a bevy of other new assistants.

We know that our defense will “dynamically attack” other teams, according to DC Gus Bradley and SC Tim Lewis. We know that our offense will be “balanced”, so says new OC Greg Knapp. With these new coaches, and the intriguing words they use to describe our team, how could we fail in 2009?

Also, how could I ignore free agent acquisition T.J. Houshmandzadeh's latest comments on KJR?

"We're going to be good," he said.

Nice.

With this knowledge, I can confidently say the Seahawks deserve to be no. 1 in every single power ranking.

2 through 28 don’t really matter because the Seahawks will be on their own tier of greatness this season.

This leads us to our division rivals.

29. 49ers
– Hmm who do I dislike least out of our conference? I’ll go with the Niners, simply because I was born in California and Frank Gore was on my fantasy team. Also, Mike Singletary is a respectable, fiery and passionate coach. Here's a fun matchup: Aaron Curry vs Michael Crabtree because they should be about the same speed.

30. Rams – The Rams deserve a break right? They finish third in the NFC West next year. Bulger is going to blow up the Cardinals for two wins next season.

31. Cardinals – If the Rams rank third in the NFC West, then that puts the Cardinals back at the bottom. Here’s to another 100 years of complete and utter decimation.

32. Steelers
– Do I need to explain this one? 0-16.
