MARINERS: The Prodigal "Kid" Returns

_
Ken Griffey Jr. is coming back to Seattle.

Junior told the Atlanta Braves Wednesday it's time for him to return "home".

The 39-year-old had been wrestling wether or not to play with potential National League contender Braves or relive the glory days and spend his 20th anniversary in baseball with the team he broke into the majors with.

As of yesterday it was reported by The Seattle Times that Griffey and the Braves had reached an agreement but both Jerry Crasnick of ESPN and a local Atlanta television station have confirmed Griffey's contract with Seattle. Fans and analysts alike are hesitant however.

"Whether it is true or not this has been driving me nuts for 3 days now," one fan said. "I want to take my son to Safeco and see Griffey back in a Mariners uniform."

The Braves had hoped to platoon Matt Diaz and Griffey in left field and with Griffey's home so close to Atlanta's spring training facility it made the prospect of Griffey playing for manager Bobby Cox so likely.

But the tug-and-pull of Atlanta or Seattle had worn Griffey down and it appears he's going with the safety blanket of the Mariners where there won't be any pressure to win a title, something Griffey struggled with during his time with the Chicago White Sox.
