The Seahawks haven’t put up any semi-consistent fantasy points this season except for John Carlson, as I documented last week. Coming into the final week against the Cardinals, not much has changed. Carlson is still the only Seahawk worth starting week 17.
But even Carlson isn’t a lock this week.
To Continue...
During their last meeting with the Cardinals, Carlson recorded only 39 yards and was held out of the end zone. Granted, Hasselbeck was shaking off the rust all game while never really finding any rhythm.
This week, Seneca Wallace takes a turn at the Cardinals and should yield better results than what Hasselbeck attempted last time. The Seahawks are giving teams different formations on the line and different packages that protect the QB better, such as a lot more two tight ends sets and even some max protection packages. This change at the line makes the offense a little tougher to game plan for, as evidenced by the Seahawks defeating the Jets last week with a patchwork line.
Overall, look for Carlson to get more catches and maybe even break the tight end single season TD record. As the seventh ranked tight end in terms of points this season, Carlson is always an automatic start.
OTHER STARTERS
I wouldn’t advise starting any other Seahawk besides Carlson this week, but if I had to choose another, I think I’d go with Seneca Wallace for the reasons listed above. Wallace has steadily improved and impressed critics during the last few games. He's also a rushing threat, which can rack up easy points for fantasy players.
RISKY STARTERS
The popular pick this week seems to be Maurice Morris after he rushed for 116 yards last week. This could pay off because Julius Jones is not getting any carries (He had zero last week). But, Morris hasn’t put together back-to-back 90+ yard games all season. Besides, last matchup Jones and Morris only managed 21 rushing yards combined (Morris had two yards on two carries.) Don’t look for him to have a repeat performance this week.
